***When can teens return to sports after a head injury?
Out of 1.5 million athletes playing high school and college football 20 percent suffer from concussions each year (equivalent to 300,000). Physicians play a big role in an athlete’s career, by determining the different risk of brain injuries. Minor head injuries could be potentially dangerous. So, avoiding head injuries is the best plan for all athletes’ success. It is important to wear protective head gear that is shock absorbing to protect athletes in high impact collisions. Statistics show that after a concussion the risk of receiving another is four times as likely. Football has a greater number of concussions. Studies have shown that concussions cause a learning disability.

***Recurrent Concussion and Risk of Depression in Retired Professional Football Players.
There are various different types of precautions that take many athletic trainers use when they are dealing with the livelihood of athletes. Statistics show that older athletes that had a head injury (concussions) in the past report concussions more frequently. And their past concussions can help trigger them to have many different health issues. Such as: osteoarthritis, coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes.

***Sport-Related Concussion
Many sports related concussions are taking place more often in both children and adolecents. Its becoming harder and harder to diagnose concussions because mnay athletes don't show concussive symptoms. Its very important for athletes to be cautious when going back. By taking there recovery steps at a time. Concussions could be very catastrophic to a athletes abilitys. So its important to play sports with high precaution.

I choose this topic to help me get a better understanding of how and why concussions happen to teens, and what can the schools do to help. I feel that the questions that I made will help me to better my knowlege about this topic.
1.) Which one of the many sports manufracturers distributes the safest sports epuipment?
2.) How many high school students ignore concussions to play sports?
3.) What if a sports organization is low on funds and someone gets injured because of old equipment, then who is accountable for it?
4.) Should new sports equipment be bought every few years to insure the saftey of students?
5.) Why are adults football players more likely to recive a concussion?

Graph, Map, Chart,and Citation

This graph is showing the relationship between the different collegiate level and the high school level sports. This graph proves that collegiate sports see more concussions through out the season. This graph relates to my topic by showing how the type of sport determines the ranking of concussions they have. In this graph I noticed that the girls primarily girls sports they have a higher amount of concussions and head injuries. This graph answers one of my research questions" Which high school sport causes the most concussions"? And from my recent research I learned that football causes the most in the United States.

Research Memo
*Hypothesis:
-Are students really responsible for their incidents on the field? Some would say yes but I disagree with that statement because students perform with the equipment that they are issued. The schools should be responsible because they need to take the time to have the equipment inspected or even buy new equipment. Many people would voice their opinion differently from me because they would think that it would cut into the schools' budgets, so that is why they should allocate money for new equipment. Students perform at high levels to compete with other athletes for their schools athletic events but it seems as if their efforts are sometimes not appreciated. Many students suffer from concussions due to high impact blows to the head mainly because of unreliable sporting equipment.
*Context:
-While gathering my information, I didn’t really have a target audience. I tried to get a balanced amount of male and female opinions on my topic because I wanted to get different views. I think that the information that I gathered was valid because it was a mixture of people.
*Results:
Different Sports Manufacturers Number of people
Nike
|
14
|
Under Armor
|
11
|
Reebok
|
10
|
Shutt
|

*Data Analysis:
-After analyzing my data I noticed that most girls chose Nike as a company that distributes the safest and most durable equipment. I think that the girls answered this survey question more precisely. I had more girls answer this question correctly than the boys. I don’t think that the girls really knew this one because Nike is a very well known sportswear company. Many of the boys answered this question by checking the Under Armor blank simply because it usually costs more money and many famous players wear this brand. Everyone wants to wear this item as well. Nike has the overall safest and most durable equipment that’s on the market when competing with other top sports companies.
- The most common trend that I found in my data was that most of the respondents believed that this topic is a problem all over the United States because statistics show that the rate of concussions due to sports has increased.I think that the drive to compete and win can cause children and adolescents to become injured(any head injuries). The main focus for students' safety has been pointed primarily at high school students. Many people shy away from the younger students because they don't feel that they are much to worry about. But recently there has been a huge increase in concussions to younger children.
-Due to my lack of information from my respondents, I wasn’t able to get as accurate survey answers because I left out some key questions. The main questions that I left out were “What is your gender? What is your age?" I feel that if I included these questions in my survey then the information that I received from the respondents would have been more accurate. I would have had a better conclusion about the different views that various people have towards my topic.
*Conclusion:
-Reflecting back on my hypothesis, I was correct about students not being well protected by some equipment not only because of lack of funds but also due to lack of importance in schools. If schools take this topic more seriously, then students wouldn’t have to worry about life changing injuries.
*Section Six:
From this point I want to go farther and show the public the different disasters that sports related injuries can cause; and how important it is to be monitored for concussions and injuries of that nature to the head because these injuries are being found more often in a younger generation. My most essential research question that should be researched is “Should new sports equipment be bought every few years to help ensure the safety of students.” From all of my research I don’t plan to change my research topic. But I have thought about doing so because it is hard for me to find strong points in my research.

The Story behind my topic
The story behind my topic all started because I am a athlete. All through school have played sports. It all started when I played little leuage football with older kids. While playing football I tried to push myself to be the best, as all kids try to do. I recived a brutal hit from the biggest and strongest boy on my team. The helment that I was issued was cracked so it wasnt ready to stand against hard hit. Many adults don't belive that young children are much of a threat to each other in contact sports, so they dont pay attention to the small things until somthing happens. Students are suffering from fatalitys such as concussions at younger and younger ages. Athletes that suffer from these injuries are effected mentally and phisically, injuries like these are life changing. Major sports injuries have increased in the passed few years due to old eqipment and devistating hits during sporting events. Devistationg hits to the head from another player can cause you to receive a concussion. Some people could have a serious injury and not even know about it.Thats why it is important to get a concusions test before the seasons start. I think that many people don't realize how important it is to get concusion test ,they are helpful to insure your ready to play in the sporting events. Someone I know got a devistating sports injury and after that he was never the same. I think that coaches should take the time to check equipment thuroly... until its to late.
